ICE-TECH
DEVELOPS NEW ARMOR LENS
ICE-TECH Advanced
Polarized Sunglasses announces the new revolutionary Advanced Polarized
ICE-TECH Armor Lens. This new ICE-TECH Armor Lens is the result
of extensive development designed to produce a superior sunglass
lens. ICE-TECH continues to lead the sunglass industry in the development
of new polarized lens technologies.
The new ICE-TECH
Armor Lens will replace polarized polycarbonate ICE-TECH lenses.
ICE-TECH was the first sunglass company featuring an all polarized
line of sunglasses to produce polarized polycarbonate lenses. ICE-TECH
has used this material for their Advanced Polarized non-glass lenses
since 1996. Now ICE-TECH has developed a superior lens. This new
ICE-TECH Armor Lens offers many advantages over other lens materials.
The research
and development team at ICE-TECH were given specific desired improvement
parameters for the development of a new lens.
The
development goals were as follows:
1- Better
Optics: Optical properties that would significantly improve
the vision for the wearer.
2- Excellent
Scratch Resistance: Any new lens material must be able to
significantly resist scratching better than our current polycarbonate
lens.
3- Lighter
Weight: If possible reduce the weight of the lens material,
as consumers want the lightest weight lens possible.
4- Improve
Lens Mirror Colors: Lens mirror colors should be improved
for both durability and performance.
5-
Exceed All FDA Lens Standards: Our final mission statement
required any new lens development must exceed all FDA Lens Standards
for optical quality sunglass lenses.
The
ICE-TECH Research and Development Team accomplished all of the objectives.
1- Better
Optics: Optical properties for the new ICE-TECH Armor Lens
include better chromatic quality known as the ABBE value. The tendency
of a material to separate light as the light passes through the
material is called chromatic aberration and this chromatic aberration
is measured by its Abbe value. The Abbe value of a material is inversely
proportional to the chromatic aberration induced as light passes
through it. In other words, the higher the abbe value, the lower
the amount of chromatic aberration. The new ICE-TECH Armor Lens
has an ABBE value of 52. This replaces our polycarbonate lens, which
had an ABBE value of 30. All polycarbonate lenses will have an ABBE
value of 30.
2- Excellent
Scratch Resistance: The new ICE-TECH Armor Lens offers superior
scratch resistance due the physical properties of the lens material.
The new ICE-TECH Armor Lens is naturally a very hard material and
impact resistant. Polycarbonate is also impact resistant, however
polycarbonate is naturally a very soft material. For lens use polycarbonate
cannot be sold without a hard coating applied to the base polycarbonate
lens material. The new ICE-TECH Armor Lens can be used without any
additional treatment and still offers excellent scratch resistance.
Superior resistance to scratching is achieved with the new Armor
Lens. Polycarbonate lenses (which includes the Oakley Plutonite*
lens), are all hard coated. This is a thin hard coating bonded to
the outer surface to provide scratch resistance, however with a
thin hard material on top of a thin soft material, (such as polycarbonate),
any impact the lens has with a hard object with a force great enough
to cause the soft underlying material to be impacted will result
in lens damage.
3- Lighter
Weight: The new ICE-TECH Armor Lens is over 10% lighter weight.
4- Improve
Lens Mirror Colors: The development of the new ICE-TECH Armor
Lens offered an excellent opportunity for the ICE-TECH Research
and Development Team to improve all colors of mirrored lenses. A
special mirror bonding technology was developed. The proprietary
application of the mirrored lens colors is encased with an exclusive
nano technology process. This new mirror bonding process allows
ICE-TECH to offer a superior extended lens warranty; as we now feature
the ultimate in mirror lens technology with our exclusive cold plasma
high vacuum process. Lens mirrors on the new ICE-TECH Armor Lens
now offer the same resistance to scratching that non-mirrored lenses
offer. Superior resistance to scratching is achieved with the new
Armor Lens.
5- Exceed
All FDA Lens Standards: The new ICE-TECH Armor Lens exceeds
all FDA and ANSI standards for Class One Optical products. This
includes impact resistance tests that are required of polycarbonate
lenses.
The new ICE-TECH
Armor Lens offers a revolutionary breakthrough in Advanced Polarized
Optics. A lighter weight lens, with superior optics, superior mirrors
and exceptional scratch resistance make the new ICE-TECH Armor Lens----
Clearly the BEST.
